Most travelers can stay in Canada for up to six months per visit with an approved eTA.
What You Need to Know
The maximum stay allowed is usually six months, but the final decision is made by a border services officer upon arrival in Canada. The officer may shorten or extend your stay based on your travel plans and eligibility. If no stamp is provided in your passport, you may stay for six months from the date of entry or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. The length of stay is different from the overall validity period of the eTA, which can last up to five years.
Our Recommendation
After arriving in Canada, check your passport for a stamped departure date or ask a border officer if you’re unsure. If a specific date is provided or if you're issued a visitor record, make sure to follow the stated exit requirements.
A Quick Tip
Respect the maximum length of stay granted to avoid issues with Canadian immigration and future travel applications.
