An approved Canadian eTA is valid for five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
What You Need to Know
The five-year validity period begins from the date your eTA is approved. If your passport expires before the five years are up, your eTA will no longer be valid, and you will need to apply for a new one. A valid Canadian eTA allows for multiple entries during the validity period. Keep in mind that the validity period determines how long you can use your eTA to enter Canada, not how long you can stay during each visit.
Our Recommendation
After receiving your approved eTA, review your confirmation email to check the expiration date. Make sure you also understand the length of stay allowed per visit, which is typically up to six months.
A Quick Tip
Validity refers to the time frame during which your eTA can be used to enter Canada, not the duration of each stay. Each visit must still follow the entry rules set by Canadian border officials.
