The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows travelers from certain countries to visit the United States for up to 90 days without needing a visa, for purposes of tourism, business, or transit.
This program is managed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in partnership with the Department of State.
🌍 Who Can Use the VWP?
Citizens of participating countries (currently 38+) are eligible, provided they meet specific conditions. These include:
-
Holding a valid e-passport (with an embedded chip and chip symbol on the cover)
-
Applying for and receiving an approved ESTA before boarding their flight
⚠️ Who Is Not Eligible?
Even if you're from a VWP country, you may be ineligible if:
-
You’ve traveled to or been in Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, or Yemen on or after March 1, 2011
-
You hold dual nationality with Iran, Iraq, Syria, or Sudan
-
Your passport is not an e-passport
🧾 Do I Still Need to Apply?
Yes. While a visa isn't needed, travelers must still apply for an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). It’s a quick online process that verifies your eligibility to enter the U.S. under the VWP.
