How long is my eTA valid for? UK eTas are valid for two years, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
Can I enter the United Kingdom multiple times? Yes, the UK eTA allows for multiple entries for up to 180 days per entry.
What if my eTA expires while I'm in the United Kingdom? An eTA is only required to travel to and enter the UK. You do not need a valid eTA to leave the country.
If my eTA has not been approved yet, can I still travel? No. You must have an approved UK eTA before you can board your transport or travel to the United Kingdom. Transport carriers are required by law to check for an approved digital permission and will deny boarding if your application is still pending or has been rejected.
Does an eTA guarantee my entry into the United Kingdom? No. An eTA acts as permission to travel to the UK, but it does not guarantee entry. Border force officers at the passport control center make the final decision on whether you are permitted to enter.
Can I renew my eTA? No. An eTA cannot be renewed. Once it expires, or if you get a new passport, you must apply for a new eTA.
What do I need to bring to the airport? Your eTA is electronically linked to your passport, so you do not need to print anything. Keep your application reference number handy, but transport and border officials will verify your status by scanning your passport.
Do I need an eTA to transit through the United Kingdom? An eTA may be required depending on your transit type. Travelers who remain landside and pass through UK border control, such as when changing airports or reclaiming baggage between separate tickets, must have an approved eTA. Travelers who stay airside and do not pass through border control during their connection do not require an eTA.
If I have a visa, will I also need an eTA? No. Individuals who possess a valid UK visa can travel to the United Kingdom using that visa for its intended purpose. You do not need to apply for an eTA if you already hold a valid visa.
